FOR 5596: Unfolding the potential of S-adenosylmethionine-dependent enzyme chemistry

  • Selected enzyme systems of particular novelty will be studied with respect to their catalytic mechanisms and their function in biological systems. We will investigate their ability to cooperate in multienzyme reactions, their substrate promiscuity, and their suitability as scaffolds for enzyme engineering. An exploratory analysis of SAM analogues' usefulness as components in alternative metabolic pathways and in vivo SAM regeneration systems will be conducted in addition to employing them for the characterisation of enzyme processes and product diversification. PyEED (Python Enzyme Engineering Database) - in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Jürgen Pleiss (University of Stuttgart)

  • PyEED is collaborative project on developing a sustainable, re-usable toolbox for enzyme engineering. The toolbox includes methods to establish databases on sequence, structure, and function of protein families, bioinformatics methods for analyzing sequence and structure data, modelling tools for studying substrate binding sites and for designing mutants, and data management tools for handling experimental data on enzyme function.  „KAPSEL – nachhaltiges Lern-Lehr-Konzept in der Pharmazie“, Fakultät für Chemie und Pharmazie"

  • With the support of the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre, a mentoring program was set up to make it easier for first and second semester pharmacy students to start studying pharmacy. Learning groups are to be found at the beginning of the course and led by experienced students from the higher semester in close cooperation with the university lecturers. Link

AppSAM - European Research Councils (ERC) Starting Grant

 

  • AppSAM will unlock the synthetic capability of S-adenosyl¬methionine (SAM)-dependent methyltransferases and radical SAM enzymes for application in environmentally friendly and fully sustainable reactions. Link

 BioDiMet - Methyl Transferases for the Functional Diversification of Bioactives

  • BioDiMet aims to develop a robust biocatalytic methyltransferase toolbox for selective synthesis of novel bioactives in an industrial setting. BioDiMet applies smart enzyme cascade reactions involving S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM)-dependent methyltransferases (MTs). This will lead to novel products with new functional properties for healthcare. Link
